Avidyne rebranding brings a new logo -
and a pointed slogan
Avidyne's Schwinn also addressed a new branding
program - rebranding, actually - complete with a sharp new
logo and slogan: "For Pilots Who Know the Difference."
In a conversation with Schwinn, he stressed that customers
tell him they picked Avidyne's IFD series of all-in-one

WAAS GPS/MFD products because they prefer Avidyne's
operating interface - a design the company dubbed "hybrid
touchscreen" because it allows pilots to choose touchscreen
control, buttons and knobs, or any combination.
It's the same difference that helps sell Avidyne's Release
9 integrated avionics package - and, in fact, Release 9
served as the model for the operating interfaces Avidyne
uses on all its IFD models: the IFD550, the newest and
most powerful, the IFD545, IFD540 and IFD440.
Schwinn also noted his delight at the success of the
IFD550, telling Avionics News that the flagship IFD is
selling five times faster than company forecasts developed
before it was announced in April 2016. He credited both
the features of the IFD series and its "more intuitive
interface" for that success.
The backlog of IFD550 should be cleared out September,
and to help continue the high demand for the unit, Avidyne
started a trade-in program before AirVenture 2017.
True to form, the Avidyne booth at AirVenture was
constantly busy with prospects and potential customers
hoping to sample the IFD products and related
accessories.
In-flight messaging on tap
from BendixKing
BendixKing took the wraps off a different kind
of product, one aimed at more than just the aviation
community.
Dubbed the AeroWave Text & Track, the company
created the handheld device to deliver two-way
messaging, tracking and alerts via connectivity with
Iridium's satellite constellation.
While promoting the AeroWave to both pilots and
passengers of general aviation aircraft, the company also
considers the device an "ideal solution for industrial,
enterprise, maritime, aviation, and security environments
where remote workforces and individuals need robust and
reliable communication."

Users can employ AeroWave to send and receive
messages directly between it and other devices. It can
send 90 characters of text and receive up to 140 characters
in response - or use one of 50 user-defined preset
messages.
Text & Track can operate as a stand-alone tracker and
SOS beacon or be Bluetooth paired with a smartphone
via the BendixKing app for more advanced feature
options. And pilots can use AeroWave Text & Track to
initiate alerts via the SOS button on the device or via the
smartphone app. There's even an option to remove the
antenna to connect with an optional external antenna for
enhanced performance.
Dynon moves further into
certificated panels
Dynon Avionics officially expanded its entries into the
world of certified avionics by revealing that its existing
SkyView HDX glass cockpit system will achieve FAA
certification for the Cessna 172 and Beech B58 Baron in
the near future.

Dynon's HDX features a touchscreen primary display,
synthetic vision, ADS-B Out and a Mode S transponder
on the SkyView HDX. It will be capable of integration
with navigators such as the Avidyne IFD series. The HDX
comes in two sizes: 7 inch and 10 inch.
Previously, all of Dynon's products have been available
for experimental aircraft only, something that changed
when the EAA earned an STC to use the Dynon D10 (and
later the D100) in certificated products.
