The S-TEC 3100
Genesys' second flight-control system release came in the
form of the S-TEC 3100 and its suite of advanced features
for Part 23 aircraft.

A major goal Genesys Aerosystems' engineering team
focused on was ensuring that the open-architecture design
of the 3100 allows easy integration with both legacy analog
avionics - such as HSIs and DGs - and today's advanced
digital systems such as complete EFIS displays. Genesys also
made the 3100 to require minimal additional equipment to
keep down incremental cost to as little as possible.
The feature set reads like a carbon-copy of that for the
S-TEC 5000 - except at a much lower price for the Part 23
set. Among those features are underspeed and overspeed
warnings, roll envelope exceedance warning, lateral and
vertical navigation functions such as GPSL, GPSV, GPSS,
VOR, LOC, GS, plus voice annunciations and a host of
additional features.
The company expects to win approval and begin
shipments in early 2018.

Guardian Avionics introduces multiple
cockpit tools
Guardian Avionics unveiled its smartPlane collection, a
lineup of products that includes multiple models of devices,
including flight data recorders, a cloud web application and
an app.
The integrated devices take information produced by
third-party application products, such as a GPS, engine
monitors and even ADS-B displays, and records that data
with the smartMFD app on an iPad or iPhone, according to
the company. The data is captured through a Wi-Fi, 3G or
4G link so that the operators can study it during a flight - or
after.
Additionally, the smartMFD app can display sectional,
VFR, or IFR charts, airport and radio communication
information. Chart subscriptions come through Gaurdian's
partnership with Seattle Avionics.
Guardian is shipping the smartLink 554, a panel-mounted
or remote-mounted flight data recorder, carbon monoxide
detector, altitude and heading reference system, and

Bluetooth connection, for $699; the smartLink 650 panelmounted flight data recorder and CO detector that has a
USB power supply and connection, but does not include
AHRS, for $799; the smartLink 555 panel-mounted flight
data recorder, pulse oximeter, CO detector, and AHRS with
Bluetooth connection for $899; and the smartLink 851
remote-mounted flight data recorder, CO detector, AHRS,
and USB power supply with Bluetooth and USB connections
for $999. The price does not include a panel mount for a
tablet or phone.
All the components in this system qualify for installation
as a minor alteration under FAA's Non-Required Safety
Enhancing Equipment authorization, or NORSEE.

uAvionix
uAvionix unveiled its SkyBeacon ADS-B Out solution, a
two-screw, two-wire piece of simplicity that quickly became
one of the most-discussed avionics products released during
AirVenture 2017.
The company's new patent-pending design offers bolt-on
2020 compliance by simply removing the current wingtip
position light and replacing it with the SkyBeacon using the

existing wiring and circuit breaker; no airframe modifications
or additional antennas are required.
Upon first power-up, SkyBeacon's mobile application
automatically configures the ICAO address, emitter type,
aircraft length, width and GPS offsets using the aircraft
registration information.
The company also unveiled a total ADS-B Out/In solution
for $999, the echo UAT, with compliant WAAS GPS source,
traffic, weather and Wi-Fi outputs.
uAvionix scored another big hit with its $199 Scout,
a thumb drive-size ADS-B In receiver. Display is via
wireless to a tablet or smartphone; power comes from an
external source, either a cigarette-adapter USB cable or
stand-alone battery.
