Do you interact with
customers?

It depends on the customer, but for
the most part, yes. Of course, there's
the occasional person who wants
to talk your ear off or someone you
don't like, but you have that at any
job. We're one of those shops that
seems to be rare. When someone
pulls up, we yank the radio out, repair
it, reinstall it, ground-check it and
they're on their way. We have the
ability to resurrect old equipment.

What's your favorite
airplane to work on?

The one that hurts the least
physically. Helicopters can be more
painful. Most of the Bells - the
206 and 407 - have wiring in the
center console, and you must twist
yourself up to do the work. As for
my favorite airplane, I get excited
when I see a Navion.

What do you do when
you're not working?

I got married in April. My wife,
Roxanne, is a bartender. She also
has a desk job in the state capital,
so we spend our time together.

Do you have any pets?

Roxanne is an animal lover. We
have two pigs and a dog. One pig is
the Julianna breed and her name is
Gwen, but we lovingly call her Tank.
The second pig is a rescue partpotbelly named Pickle Rick. We also
have part custody of two dogs from

The Rife family owns a white boxer, Morty, who likes to cuddle with Gwen, one of the family's two pigs.

Roxanne's previous relationship. One
is a Pomeranian pug, and the other
is a Lab/mutt mix. Our dog is Morty
and he's a 6-month-old white boxer.
Morty and Gwen are buddies and
will cuddle with each other. Pigs are
smart. Gwen rings a bell when she
needs to go outside and is slowly
teaching Morty how to do that. Pigs
are a piece of cake to take care of.

Other than the animals,
what do you do for fun?

I have a 2008 Triumph Speed Triple
that I use to commute to work. I also
go for rides, and Roxanne and I have
even gone camping with it and all

our equipment. We are snowboarders and go mainly to Ski Roundtop, a
local place. It's not too big, so we can
go three or four times a week in-season. I taught her how to snowboard
since I was a snowboard instructor in
high school.

What do you see in
your future?

For work, the future for general
aviation is unclear, but I am extremely passionate about my job. q
