Major update to the FAA's Flight
Standards Information Management
System (FAA Order 8900.1)
On March 5, 2018, the Federal Aviation Administration
issued an extensive update to Volume 2 of FAA order
8900.1 regarding the safety assurance system as it relates
to repair stations. This change updates and aligns guidance
for Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 145
repair station certification, surveillance and inspections. This
change:
A. Incorporates new information into:
1) Volume 2, Chapter 11:
*	 Section 1, Safety Assurance System: Phase 1 -
Preapplication.
*	 Section 2, Safety Assurance System: Phase
2 - Formal Application (SAS Business Process
Modules 1 and 2).
*	 Section 6, Safety Assurance System: Part 145
Repair Station Ratings and Classifications Under
14 CFR Part 145, §§ 145.59 and 145.61.
2) Volume 6, Chapter 9:
*	 Section 15, Safety Assurance System: Inspect a
Part 145 Repair Station's Maintenance Process.
*	 Section 17, Safety Assurance System: Inspect a
Part 145 Repair Station Performing Maintenance
for the U.S. Military Only.

a Part 145 Repair Station Located Outside the
United States (Non-Bilateral Aviation Safety
Agreement Maintenance Facility).
