When you put it all together, from
the electronic tools to the personal
training to the demo units, there are
plenty of resources that will help
most pilots get comfortable with their
shiny new avionics quickly.
But some systems, like a new
connected cockpit, require the
average customer to need frequent
refresher training.
"That's a whole other level of

difficulty for most people," Conroy
said. "It looks easy, but if you don't
do it all the time, it can be confusing.
It's truly an ingenious technology to
be able to wirelessly connect all these
different panel-mounted and handheld components, but you have to use
it a lot to get used to it. If you only
fly once a month, you'll probably end
up having to relearn it every time."
Good training starts with
good selling
Another thing to consider
whether you are selling or shopping
for new avionics is to make sure the
system being considered is the right

one for the application.
"Each customer has their own
expectations and desires for what
they want their new avionics to do,"
Vail explained. "For example, I have
a customer who owns a Bonanza
with a new Garmin 345 ADS-B
transponder. He called me recently
to ask about the unit's altitude-alert
function. In this case, the 345 only
alerts him when he's leaving the
preset altitude. He's gone though the
POH a number of times and can't
figure out how to make it 'alert' him
as he's nearing his target altitude.
"He told me that's not the way
he expected the unit to work, so

REPLACEMENT STC

Citation 560XL to replace the aging LCR-93 AHRS, which has been
out of production since 2008. The new LCR-100 AHRS was designed
