ensure we meet the changing needs of our partners.
There is no doubt that the aviation industry is seeing
a shortage of qualified technicians, and it is also true
that aircraft and equipment are becoming more complex
resulting in the need for increased electronics and avionics
training. For these reasons, our organization will continue to
implement processes designed to increase the certification
rate of our graduates.
This will increase the number of qualified technicians
available to the industry. We will continue to partner with
industry experts like Fulcrum Studios and NIDA Corp. to
keep our educational delivery on the cutting-edge relative
to today's technology. We are also finding success in the
international market, and we see our student population
expanding in that direction.
Avionics News: How are you preparing students to
become technicians and satisfying the increasing demand
of the advanced technology fields in avionics, unmanned
aircraft systems and aircraft electronics?
AIM: Our program offerings continue to expand to
include emerging technologies such as unmanned aerial
systems, and to stay current in technologies such as aircraft
electronics and communication. We continually look to the
basics of content delivery and student outcomes.
As we evolve our program offerings, we strive to
remain current and relevant in the industry in part by
actively pursuing experienced faculty who posses a clear
understanding of the industry in its current state. This
coupled with a strong curriculum and supporting resources,
developed with the help of program advisory committees,
work to maximize the effectiveness of the day-to-day course
delivery. Faculty training is continually focused on two
fronts: training to be a better trainer and staying current with
industry practices.
Avionics News: How are you doing things differently
to keep up with technological advancements? What is new
and exciting in your curriculum?
AIM: We have played host to many meetings with our
industry partners to review our curriculum and keep it current
with industry standards. For example, we have developed
the aviation maintenance technician: avionics program, or
AMTA, to meet the evolving industry needs.
Our AMTA curriculum provides classroom, hangar,
lab, and an interactive online section for our students to
