On the

How to better manage time amid your hectic day

N

o doubt, you pride
yourself in doing
your clients right by
delivering jobs on time, on spec,
and on budget.
That's who you are. That's what
you do.
Indeed, you lead your team with
that objective in mind: You remove
roadblocks to their work; give
them the tools and guidance to
do their jobs with excellence; and
hold them accountable to get their
work done as efficiently - and
effectively - as possible.
That's how business gets done:
You inspire your people to get the
best return on their time to make
your shop better.
But here's something to think about: Are you doing
your shop right by how you manage your day? And just as
importantly, are you getting your work done as effectively
as possible to the best return on your time? To succeed in
business, this isn't the place for a double standard.

When we go to work, we can
either own our time (and our tasks)
or run around like a headless
chicken.
With the latter, we see our day
extending into the evening and
encroaching on our home space;
we can bear down, while trying
to justify it with having so much
to do - after a litany of meetings,
fire drills and other distractions
- but we're eventually going to
feel blown-up, exhausted and like
a useless pile of feathers. That's
a big price to pay, because from
there, nothing good happens.
This leaves the former as the
only workable solution.
Time is the most powerful,
useful tool we have to achieve those things that can make
our business better. For that matter, it's also all we have to
find a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment in our day.
