Another ADS-B
BendixKing's CNI 5000 upgrade
solution from BendixKing
is the MST 70B, a direct slide-in replacement for the MST
67A Mode S transponder aboard numerous business aircraft,
including those from Bombardier and LearJet, Dassault,
Hawker Beechcraft, early Gulfstreams and Cessna Citation
550, 560 and 650 models. The MST 70B is an ICAO Level
3 transponder, delivering the latest functionality required
for ACAS II mandate compliance; European elementary
surveillance and Enhanced Mode S Surveillance, downlink of
aircraft parameters and ADS-B 1090 ES extended squitter. An
AML STC (ST02609LA) has been approved that covers most
of the equipment and many of the aircraft in which the MST
67A was originally installed.

Blue Avionics
Blue Avionics is a Pennsylvania-based company
specializing in design, development and manufacturing of
certified avionics, aircraft retrofit harnesses, mechanical
mounting hardware, and new products matching the form,
fit, and function of the units they replace. Ross Cairns, the
company's founder and managing member, briefed AEA
Convention attendees on two of Blue Avionics' new products,
the BA-540 adaptable avionics unit and the BA-110 ARINC to
CSDB (commercial standard digital bus) converter.
The recently certified BA-540 is capable of performing
hundreds of functions with configuration changes only
- no hardware or software changes are required. It offers

functions and ARINC
429 remapping. It performs
configurable computations
using ARINC 429 values and
complex higher-order math functions,
and features dynamic filtering and increased configurable
ARINC word generation.
Recent applications for the BA-540 include installation as
an overspeed/Mach warning computer aboard NASA's Boeing
727SP stratospheric observatory for infrared astronomy. In
this application, the BA-540 drives existing EFIS overspeed
barber poles and warning horns for preemptive overspeed
notification. It provides both Vmo and Mmo calculations
regardless of aircraft configuration changes. The BA-540 also
has been installed aboard a special-mission Learjet 35A, where
it drives the stick puller for Mmo exceedance and the Vmo/
Mmo warning horn. Recent STCs include aboard a Boeing
737 classic, the Piaggio P.180 Avanti and a Bell 412 helicopter.
The BA-110 ARINC converter unit meanwhile converts
ARINC 429 to two CSDB outputs and to RS-232. It also
can combine discrete inputs to CSDB and RS-232 outputs.
Like the BA-540, it's configurable without hardware or
software changes. It's compliant with DO-178C DAL B,
DO-254 DAL B and DO-160G standards. Certification is
expected by mid-2018.
