works wirelessly with any Mode C or Mode S transponder.
It supports ADS-B's anonymous mode and is built into an
LED navigation light. Installation is as simple as changing a
lightbulb: No airframe modifications or additional antennas
are required, and the unit uses the existing mounting location,
circuit breaker and wiring. The tailBeacon from uAvionix
is similar, but mounts in an aircraft's rear navigation light
position. Both products are expected to receive TSO approval.
The two additional products from uAvionix are remotemounted ADS-B transceivers that provide 2020 compliance,
traffic and weather to an EFIS and/or tablet-based electronic
flight bag. The echoUAT is designed for general aviation
aircraft operating in the U.S. while the echoESX is a Mode
S transponder using 1090 ES, which allows ADS-B Outcompliant operation at any altitude and in any airspace
around the globe. Like the echoUAT, it also features dualband ADS-B In traffic and weather, but the echoESX also
includes an attitude and heading reference system. Both
products require an external WAAS GPS source, or they can
be installed with a dedicated sensor. An optional control head
is available for the echoes, or it can be controlled via popular
EFIS units on the experimental/homebuilt market.

Esterline Power Systems
Esterline Power Systems manufactures Leach-branded
electromechanical and solid-state switch gear for rail, aviation,
military and space applications. By combining its various
components, the company provides solutions for AC/DC
primary and secondary power distribution assemblies, relay
panels, thrust reverser control units, windshield controllers and
numerous other applications. During the AEA Convention,
Matt Farides, business development manager, briefed
attendees on his company's new modular power distribution
products and its 270VDC components.
"More and more, we're building turn-key assemblies" of
Esterline's various components, Farides told attendees. "Timeto-market has been a huge driver for most of our customers,
as well as low costs. To focus a little bit on what we've been
doing to try to improve on that, we have some modular
technologies coming out for our primary distribution systems."
Esterline's modular technologies allow quicker prototyping - a
matter of weeks instead of nine months.
"We've standardized on terminals, we've standardized
on bus bars ... the idea is that hopefully we can take your
drawing and go pull parts out of bins and go rapidly
prototype something for you and get you something in
the lab as soon as possible," he said. An existing network

place and also improving time to market.
"Today, there are some limitations on hot switching for
270 (volt), and more and more we are seeing that people
are coming in looking for 270-volt systems, even in the
commercial market," Farides said. To meet that demand,
Esterline has developed proprietary arc suppression
methods and maintains galvanic isolation, resulting in
products flying now in demonstrators and expected to be on
the market next year.

FreeFlight Systems
New from FreeFlight Systems is the Avail Performance
Package, which the company says provides a cost-effective
and complete ADS-B solution for Beech King Airs and other
twin turboprop aircraft. Included in the Avail package are dual
FDL-1090-TX 1090 Mode S/ES transponders, a RANGRRX/G 978 ADS-B receiver with an internal WAAS/GPS,
an integrated Wi-Fi capability and the single control head
necessary. These products provide twin turboprop aircraft a
modular, all-in-one solution to equip with ADS-B In and Out
for the upcoming Jan. 1, 2020 mandate.
FreeFlight says its FDL-1090-TX is one of the smallest
Mode S/ES transponders available today and can be mounted
anywhere within the pressure vessel. The control head's
intuitive user interface features positive control knobs
and push buttons for squawk code designations, IDENT
