avWIFI enables the seamless integration with a smartphone,
EFB, or tablet to the secure server that not only enables the
user to make voice calls through the satLINK mobile app,
but also the use of hosted applications on the server."
With a nod to the company's roots, Rios explained
that the avWIFI system also enables the automatic
wireless downloading of the aircraft's QAR data.
"The Avionica avWIFI router's capabilities provide
the high-throughput speeds required to enable
automated updates to IFE systems, EFB, onboard
maintenance terminals and other Ethernet-based mass
data storage systems," Rios said. "It not only saves time,
it eliminates the possibility of the system overwriting
important information."

The big move with the new miniQAR
Avionica started with QARs, and that technology
remains a huge part of the company's future. It recently
received AML-STC for the miniQAR Mk III and its
companion avCM 4G Cellular Module for Part 23 aircraft.
"Our history has been predicated on answering the
simple question: What do our customers need? And
in this case, we found that our customers who operate
smaller, Part 23 aircraft like the HondaJet, Pilatus PC-12
and Phenom 300, needed a lightweight, automated QAR
system with automatic download capability," Segredo
stated. "Previously, this level of
automated QAR sophistication
has only been available for
larger passenger and corporate
aircraft. Now, operators of some
Part 23 aircraft can benefit from
the miniQAR capabilities."
"The miniQAR Mk III packs a lot of recording
capability into a small package," Rios added. "It has
solid-state reliability, a 1,500-hour recording capability
and, because it is so compact, it is easy to install."
Rios explained that when the miniQAR Mk III is
coupled with Avionica's next-generation avCM 4G
Wireless Module, operators get automated wireless QAR
data offload from the aircraft to their preferred groundbased system or Avionica-hosted avSYNC cloud-based
server. The miniQAR can also support on-ground internet
access for IFE systems, EFB updates, and operational
datalinks over an available 4G network.

the engineering experts at L2 Aviation, we have received
an FAA AML-STC for the miniQAR and avCM for,
what we plan, will be a growing list of Part 23 category

For Avionica, success starts
in the customer's seat
While it's true that Avionica's success started with a
seemingly simple idea, the fact is that this "simple solution"
had evaded every other service provider. So why did
Avionica see what others hadn't?
As Segredo explained it, quite possibly it all stemmed
from his early vision and philosophy.
"I discovered at an early age that there are three guiding
principles essential to creating a successful aerospace
business in the highly competitive connectivity niche:
Always put the customer first; try to put yourself in the
customer's seat; and teach your employees to fly," Segredo
said. "As a 14-year-old kid, I had a job
sweeping the floors and tidying
the labs at Gables Engineering
(in Miami). By the time I
turned 16, I was learning to
write machine code for the microcontrollers that were just
starting to emerge in electronics.
"What I remember noticing is that there were no pilots
working there. We built controller panels for cockpits,
but none of us knew what they were for. I decided to put
myself in the customer's seat, literally and figuratively,
by earning my private pilot's license, which led me to
become passionate about flying. That led to my ethic
of hiring people who are aviators, because pilots are
destination-oriented people."
In keeping with his commitment to experiencing
needs from the customers' perspective, Segredo not only
routinely flies the company's Cessna Citation 501SP
business jet, many at Avionica have completed ground
school, while others have completed flight training and
have been type rated in the Citation. q
