system, a vertical situation display, or profile view,
similar to a feature included in the AV8OR Ace
electronic flight bag. The xVue Touch also displays
weather and traffic from ADS-B In.
The combination of whole and split-screen
configurations provides the pilot with the option
to choose the functions most appropriate for any
particular phase of flight. That may be a whole-screen
PFD en route, a display split between PFD with SVS
on the left and - choose one - terrain, IFR Low charts,
IFR High charts with terrain and VSD, or a dedicated
weather page. The combinations possible number in
the dozens.
The most prominent of the features included are
Honeywell's SmartView Synthetic Vision System, a
vertical situation display that shows flight path over
terrain, and the ability to display ADS-B weather.
The vertical situation display shows the aircraft's
flight path over terrain, with terrain elevation and
special-use airspace portrayed in proportional
relationship to the aircraft's altitude within a small
horizontal space at the bottom of multifunction pages.
But to deliver these features means informing the
xVue Touch with all the data needed to provide the
correct view and perspective.
Consider these hardware features.
What to leave in, what to leave out
First, what's in.
The xVue Touch hosts several standard features
to aid pilots' situational awareness and help increase
pilot safety, especially when flying and landing at
night, navigating through bad weather, or approaching
unfamiliar airports.
The package offered is comprehensive in its features
and equipped out of the box to deliver its functions -
though future software updates - free updates, at that
- promise added features.
BendixKing's lightweight system - it weighs just
more than 11 pounds with its peripherals - provides
attitude, heading, turn coordinator, airspeed, altimeter,
vertical speed indication and course deviation overlaid
on the detailed color display of the SVS.
Beyond the obvious benefits of such a high-resolution,
large-format display, BendixKing delivers the xVue
Touch with all the hardware needed to fulfill its full suite
of features. That includes remotely mounted sensors

including a Honeywell ADAHRS, magnetometer and an
OAT sensor.
For fast, easy database and chart updates,
BendixKing includes integral Wi-Fi, as well as an
accessible USB 3 port. The company says the software
updates take 10 minutes or less while database updates
come in at under four minutes.
BendixKing also includes with xVue Touch free
future software updates to support future engine status
monitors and indicators, radio-tuning information and
autopilot control.
To control the package, BendixKing employs
a touch-display technology with infrared sensing
for exceptional touch-point accuracy. The infrared
sensing helps prevent inadvertent screen touches from
overlapping another point on the screen, as well as
unwanted touches turning into unwanted commands.
Among the screen options is a keyboard display for
entering flight plans and selecting functions.
But for many routine entries when in-flight,
BendixKing supplies an auxiliary panel with four
knobs - a heading knob, course knob, barometricpressure setting knob, and an altitude pre-set knob.
This panel takes its power directly from the main
unit of the xVue Touch, as do the other hardware
peripherals - the ADAHRS, magnetometer and OAT
sensor.
The xVue Touch provides control compatibility with
most popular flight-control systems, particularly those
using attitude-based reference.
Control of the autopilot comes through the touchsensitive PFD screen, as well as through the four-knob
remotely mounted control.
It's what you can do with the xVue Touch that pilots
should find appealing.
Cross-platform compatibility
BendixKing understands that aircraft builders
prefer to match their avionics choices to their
aircraft's mission. Walking the rows of EAB aircraft
at AirVenture Oshkosh, it's common to find full
instrument flight panels with redundant WAAS GPS
navigators, nav/comms and flight instruments.
To that end, BendixKing gave the xVue Touch an
open-architecture system to make it compatible with a
broad range of avionics from other companies.
