BendixKing also designed the xVue Touch to work
directly with both Garmin GNS and Garmin GTN series
all-in-one GPS/comm/nav units.
The company also gave the xVue direct compatibility
with Avidyne's IFD440, 540 and 550 all-in-one
navigators/communicators.
The xVue Touch can easily serve as a solid solution
for new-panel installations and panel upgrades.
For the pilot or builder of a VFR-only EAB aircraft,
the xVue Touch provides a complete solution to all the
aircraft's flight-instrument and navigation needs, along
with ADS-B In services.
And the xVue Touch can work with most ADS-B Out
solutions, including those using as a position source the
WAAS GPS navigators mentioned above.
BendixKing's cross-platform compatibility
continued beyond the GPS and VHF navigators and
communications radios.
Operational simplicity
Years ago, when automated voice-mail systems began
to dominate offices, the evolution of the technology of
options and commands made it possible for callers and
message-leavers to enter a loop with no way out but to
hang up and call again - hoping for better results.
The problem picked up a nickname: Voicemail Jail.
The operating systems of some avionics, particularly
some of the early MFDs and IFR GPS navigators,
suffered with some similarities when trying to program a
flight plan or use them en route.
To that end, BendixKing's engineers worked on the
xVue Touch's interface for more than two years, working
to refine its algorithms to minimize the number of
screen touches necessary to make maximum use of its
functions.
The result: A user interface needing a maximum of
four screen touches to perform any function, making
it quick and easy to use - even during a flight's most
intense phases, such as flying published departures,
arrivals and instrument approaches in busy airspace.
Most input needs can be accomplished in two touches;
if the pilot loses track of the process, getting back to the
start is never more than four touches away.
The soft side
BendixKing selected a longtime ally in its EFB
products and panel-mounted avionics to supply chart
data for the xVue Touch - Seattle Avionics ChartData.
An annual U.S. subscription with comprehensive

coverage of SIDs, STARs, approach plates and en route
charts goes for $99 per year, while annual subscriptions
for European data goes for $199.
Here's the rundown of the packages as provided by
Seattle Avionics.
For U.S. customers:
* Annual ChartData subscriptions with VFR and
IFR data are available for $99.
* Covers all 50 U.S. states.
Each ChartData subscription includes:
* Geo-referenced, seamless sectionals for all 50
U.S. states.
* Geo-referenced airport diagrams: Contains both
the full set of airport diagrams that the FAA
produces (currently about 700 Class B, C and
D airports) and the approximately 5,000 Seattle
Avionics-produced airports. Both sets are georeferenced.
* Geo-referenced, seamless IFR Low altitude en
route charts for 49 U.S. states (Hawaii has no
IFR Low charts).
* Geo-referenced, seamless IFR High altitude en
route charts for all 50 U.S. states.
* 12,000+ geo-referenced approach plates, SIDs,
STARs, and MINs.
For European customers:
* Annual ChartData subscriptions with VFR and
IFR data are available for just U.S. $199.
* Covers 53 European countries.
Each ChartData subscription includes:
* Geo-referenced airport diagrams.
* 18,000+ geo-referenced approach plates, SIDs,
STARs, and MINs.
The wrapup
The extra-value inclusions - the ADAHRS, remote
magnetometer and OAT probe - will certainly attract
buyers. Then it will come down to BendixKing's ability
to fulfill orders and support a new and innovative
product in a market where the owners do most of their
own electrical and avionics work.
But there's no question, BendixKing's use of
technology from more-advanced and more-expensive
systems, Honeywell's included, intends to make its mark
in a segment the company has not directly targeted in the
past.

pilot reports it will take to elevate the product's visibility
beyond the novelty of the supplier's step into a new
