POINT OF COMMUNICATION Continued from page 4 money the government spends on apprenticeships, hoping to create 5 million apprenticeships in five years. It's an ambitious plan that strives to bring America in line with countries like Germany and Switzerland, which have proven models and millions of apprentices in their pipelines. For industry, such a program could bring a structured support system to help develop talent with financial incentives for schools and trade associations. The Aircraft Electronics Association will certainly keep its eye on any available incentive, but in the meantime, we are working on a more immediate solution. In conjunction with San Luis Avionics and a handful of member shops across the country, we are identifying the elements for our own apprentice program - a benefit we can share a lot sooner with all AEA members. Of course, if your need for talent is even more immediate, you can turn to the scholarship winners beginning on page 60 and read about the best and brightest who are finishing up their avionics and maintenance education. You can also reach out to any of the AEA's 50-plus academic members and ask about their top talent; some may have just graduated and are ready to start earning while they learn. q MIKE ADAMSON Vice President of Member Programs and Education Aircraft Electronics Association EQUIP NOW!
