AEA announces scholarship
winners for 2018-19

The Aircraft Electronics Association's Educational Foundation recently announced the names of the individuals who were awarded scholarships
worth more than $100,000 for the 2018-19 academic year. The scholarship recipients are students pursuing a career in avionics or aircraft
maintenance, as well as students from AEA member companies. Individuals interested in one or more of these scholarships may download an
application after Oct. 1, 2018, by visiting aea.net/scholarship. The deadline to submit applications for the 2019-20 academic year is April 1, 2019.

Chuck Freeland Memorial Scholarship

Duncan Aviation Scholarship

Melanie Mann of Frisco, Texas, serves as the
communications and marketing manager for
FreeFlight Systems. Mann has been interested
in aviation from an early age and frequently
spends most of her weekends at the airport.
The flight training scholarship will not only
enhance her aviation knowledge and proficiency, but also
allow her to establish better relationships with FreeFlight
Systems' dealer network and clientele.

John Fadroski of Daytona Beach, Florida,
is attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University where he plans to graduate with
a bachelor's degree in aviation maintenance
sciences with an area of concentration in
business management, as well as an avionics
certification and an FCC license. His goal is to use all this
knowledge and previous experience to open a repair station.

Field Aviation Scholarship

Steven Reeves of Clearwater, Kansas, is
a junior honors student at Kansas State
University Polytechnic where he is working
toward a bachelor's degree in aviation
maintenance management with a minor
in avionics. Reeves works on the K-State
Polytechnic flight line where he moves and fuels aircraft.
He also has an internship at Duncan Aviation in Lincoln,
Nebraska. He recently began taking private pilot flight
lessons and has already soloed. He plans to use this
knowledge to help him understand the plane from the pilot's
perspective.

Jacob LaBreche of Little Falls, New York,
is enrolled at National Aviation Academy
in Concord, Massachusetts, and is working
toward his A&P certificate. Working as
a senior aircraft painter while attending
school, LaBreche had the opportunity to put
the finishing touches and install the emblems on the first
Amazon Prime airplane. His career plans are to do anything
with aviation and someday own a successful maintenance,
repair and overhaul facility.

Valentine Garland of Farmington Hills,
Michigan, is currently attending the MIAT
College of Technology, working toward an
A&P certificate and an associate degree
in aviation maintenance technology.
Garland's main interest is in avionics. He
is independently pursuing the NCATT AET certification
and works as an assistant avionics technician at Pentastar
Aviation. He hopes to become more familiar with the
in-flight internet and NextGen systems the company regularly
installs, and eventually pursue a career in the commercial
space or UAS markets.

Michael Ikeagwu of Calgary, Alberta, Canada,
is attending the Southern Alberta Institute
of Technology and pursuing his dream of
becoming an aircraft maintenance engineer.
Always curious about airplanes and their
systems, Ikeagwu dreams of using his
knowledge and skills to build an airworthy, eco-friendly
aircraft that will help reduce noise and air pollution.
