AEA SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Leon Harris/Les Nichols Memorial Scholarship to
Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology
Ryan Moore of Paris, Arkansas, graduated
with honors and will attend Spartan College
of Aeronautics and Technology where he
plans to earn a bachelor's degree in aviation
electronics technology. Moore was a recipient
of the Subiaco Academy Community Service
Award for the most community service recorded and the music
department's Medal of Honor for excellence in instrumental
music. He plans to work for General Atomics.
Marshall Temple Memorial Scholarship
Sam Pham of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania,
is enrolled in Pennsylvania College of
Technology and is pursuing a bachelor's
degree in aviation maintenance technology.
He recently earned his A&P and NCATT AET
certifications. After graduation, Pham plans
to continue work at a rotorcraft repair station doing avionics
integration and install work, and ultimately work in either the
UAV field or the private space industry.
Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics Scholarship
Nicholas Katerberg of Hudsonville, Michigan,
plans to attend the School of Missionary
Aviation Technology and earn his A&P license.
A graduate of West Michigan Aviation Academy
and the Kent Career Technology Center,
Katerberg has already had an introduction to
aviation maintenance and is working on single-engine piston
aircraft. He hopes to work in a corporate flight department as a
mechanic and eventually earn a private pilot's certificate.
Monte Mitchell Memorial Scholarship

Diego, California, and Avery
Commodore (right) is an avionics
technician at Avionics Shop Inc.
of Gig Harbor, Washington. As
recipients of this scholarship honoring Monte
Mitchell's service of more than 40 years to
the Aircraft Electronics Association, they received a full
registration to attend the 2018 AEA International Convention
& Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, which included travel
and hotel expenses.

Sporty's Foundation Flight Training Scholarship
Andrew McReynolds is a radio and instrument certificated
repairman and avionics installer at Alpha Air
Center in Webb City, Missouri. He is working
toward his A&P and would like to get his private
pilot's license and eventually the instrument
rating.
Jesiah Payne is an avionics technician at Dunkirk Avionics LLC
in Jamestown, New York. He is working toward
his repairman certificate and becoming more
adept at avionics. In addition to working on his
pilot's license, he is working on a novel he hopes
to publish.
The Stone Foundation Scholarship
Doug Sena of Wyoming, Ohio, will complete his
formal education at Cincinnati State College and
then switch careers into the aviation field. He
recently earned his powerplant certificate and
will earn his airframe certificate this fall, along
with the ASTM NCATT aircraft electronics
technician certification by the end of this year. Sena's plans are
to start with a regional or cargo airline, but he hopes to start
a combined FBO and Part 145 repair station that will provide
avionics services to the general aviation market.
Tom Taylor Memorial Scholarship to Spartan College of
Aeronautics and Technology
Clayton Cotton of Delta, Colorado, will study
aircraft maintenance technology at Spartan's
Broomfield, Colorado, location. He plans to
acquire an airframe and powerplant certificate
and work for an airline. Cotton was a three-sport
athlete in high school and was active in his FFA
chapter, which involved many projects for the local community.
Universal Avionics Systems Corp. Scholarship
Maureen Murphy of Bridgewater, Massachusetts,
studied aerospace engineering at San Diego
State University before enrolling in the aviation
maintenance technology program at Cape Cod
Community College to get hands-on aerospace
experience. Murphy is the class president, a peer
tutor and a member of the Association for Women in Aviation
Maintenance. She plans to earn a pilot's license after finishing
her A&P and pursuing a career in avionics. q
