Garmin offers the
G3X Touch in four
panel configurations and
display options, allowing
pilots and owners more flexibility in matching the unit
to their existing and coming avionics.
Garmin offers the G3X Touch as a 7-inch, in either
landscape or portrait orientation. The same two
orientation options are available for the 10.6-inch G3X
Touch.
The G3X Touch offers a variety of scalable panel
configurations and a large feature set that includes
wireless connectivity and synthetic vision as standard.
Options include display redundancy, advanced
autopilot compatibility, engine monitoring and more.
Connected to compatible VHF radios, the G3X
Touch also enables remote tuning.
G3X Touch can interface to a variety of optional
equipment, including the GFC 500 autopilot, a host of
nav/comms, the G5 electronic flight instrument and
many other products.
The Federal Aviation Administration has granted
STC approval for the installation of G3X Touch in
nearly 500 certified single-engine piston aircraft,
which is supported by Garmin's
expansive dealer network and its
aviation support team.
Pricing starts as $7,995
for a single 7-inch display or
$9,995 for a single 10.6-inch
display. That price includes
the G3X Touch display, install
kit, ADAHRS, magnetometer
and temperature probe but
not installation. Garmin is not
charging for the STC.

rounds out this list of low-cost glass
options. Originally created as a backup for
larger glass panels, this mini-EFIS has also
won approval for replacement PFD for old
analog attitude indicators. It's also approved
for airspeed, attitude, altitude, slip/skid and
instantaneous vertical speed.
The Quattro can replace vacuum
instruments as a minor installation if: the
Quattro fits the existing panel location; the
Quattro uses the integral standby battery; it
requires only a minor change to the aircraft
electrical and suction connections.
The fully TSO'd display fits directly into
a standard round 3-inch instrument opening with no
instrument overlap or panel modification, making for
a near drop-in installation. The sharp air-transportquality graphics render smooth, fluid motion of the
transport-category graphics.
The integral battery provides up to two hours of
standby power in the event of an electrical-system
failure.
The FAA approved the SAI 340 for replacing the
vacuum-driven instruments in Part 23 aircraft panels,
per information in Advisory Circular 91-75.

Expect more to come
The avionics options for digital glass panels has
progressed considerably in less than five years, when the
least-expensive EFIS options ran upward of $10,000.
Today's range of offerings means an aircraft owner
can start to upgrade to glass for as little as $2,200
- and gain the trappings, reliability and redundancy
of modern glass and still spend under $5,000, plus
installation.
Tackle the upgrades
progressively over a number
of annuals and the owner will
ultimately get to fly away with
all the benefits of an EFIS stack
- one that fits both budget and
space.
Now that pilots can choose
from an array of budget EFISinstrument options, expect to
see more from avionics makers
as they continue to pursue
solutions affordable by all
those owners of aircraft with
Sandia Aerospace's SAI 340 Quattro
limited hull value. q
