Nate Darlington of Duncan Aviation

with Nate Darlington, who is based
in Battle Creek, to learn more about
Duncan Aviation's facility and life
away from the airport.

uncan Aviation is an
aircraft service provider
supporting the aviation
needs of government and business
operators and other service
providers. Services include major
and minor airframe inspections,
heavy and line engine maintenance,
major retrofits for cabin and
cockpit systems, full paint and
interior services and preowned
aircraft sales and acquisitions.
Complete service facilities are
located in Lincoln, Nebraska; Battle
Creek, Michigan; and Provo, Utah.
Additional locations include more
than 20 satellite avionics shops
and 17 engine Rapid Response
launch offices strategically located

Duncan Aviation is a hidden
gem in Battle Creek. A lot
of folks who grew up here
don't know what goes on at
the airport. That's why I love
giving tours to people who
have never been in our facility.
I like to show the number of
aircraft on-site - and they
are aircraft from all over the
world. We are a full-service
MRO, so we do everything
from paint to interiors to
airframe maintenance,
avionics installation and
avionics retrofits.

How many employees
do you have?

We have about 650 right now, so
we're one of the largest businesses in
Battle Creek.

How did you develop
an interest in aviation?

It was by the grace of God.
I'm from the area. I was aware
of Duncan Aviation, and I was
attending the local community
college and happened to see a
job posting in the newspaper for
an interior tech. Since I wanted
to work while going to school, I
applied and was hired. I've always
liked working with my hands and
enjoy shop and trade classes in
school. It was by chance that I got
this job opportunity. I was 19 years
old, so I grew up in the completion
shop, working on various mods and
interiors, and loved it.

You've recently been
promoted to a new
position at Duncan
Aviation. What is it and
what's the scope of
your new job?

My new title is director of
aircraft modifications. I oversee
the operations within our paint
department and avionics department
as well as all modifications and
maintenance work. I was in sales
for six years before I moved into
management, and that got me
interested in other areas of the
company. I had great mentors.

What do you like best
about your job?
I like my interaction with team
members, and I like the sales
part of my job as it's personally
