start my own Part 145 certification process and is on our
current Part 145 roster."
Looking back on these past few years, he's amazed how
quickly things have progressed since founding his business
in late 2015.
"Early on, there were limits on what I could install, and
I fought for everything I got," he said. "But I was very
affordable and held my work to the highest standards.
Building a reputation is done one installation at a time."
As word spread, so did his workload. It wasn't unusual
logging 14-hour days, seven days a week, and occasionally
sleeping in the hangar to finish jobs on time. To keep up
with demand, he hired a retired Air Force vet in 2017 who
had extensive aviation experience. By early 2018, he had
nine employees - many of whom were military vets - and
was booking work months out for his two hangars.
The surprising thing is none of this would have
happened without the crash landing that started
this story.

Down, but not out
It was 96 degrees in Phoenix the Monday afternoon
Snider fueled his fixed gear Lancair. The mission was to
fly 45 miles from Glendale to Chandler, pick up some
helicopter parts and ferry them 400 miles southeast to
El Paso. That wouldn't take long in a plane cruising 190
knots per hour.
"I flew in the dark from Chandler to El Paso," he
recalled nearly four years later. "The thing that sticks with
me is there's a mountainous area 30 minutes west of El
Paso where there's not a light on the ground. It's a black
hole. If you have an engine failure after sunset, there's
no way you survive. Your landing light would only show
where you're going to smack into the ground."
After landing in El Paso and getting a room, he
delivered the helicopter parts in the morning and was back
in the air by 8 a.m. At 8,500 feet, the sky appeared to be
