carbon offsetting in the future. While it is true operators
of large aircraft, such as Boeing Business Jets, or multiaircraft fleet are more likely to be required to comply
with CORSIA, all aircraft operators are encouraged to
begin tracking their emissions now.
"It is way too early to turn a blind eye to CORSIA,"
said Adam Hartley, manager, Global Regulatory Services
Team and Global Emissions Programs at Universal
Weather and Aviation Inc. "Until the FAA publishes final
regulations, operators shouldn't assume the CORSIA
requirements aren't applicable to them. Our analysis
showed a surprising number of operators' emissions
within range of CORSIA eligibility. Bottom line,
operators need to be aware of their carbon footprint as
emissions requirements continue to expand."

and procedures related to CORSIA tracking and assign

someone to the task. For some operations, it might
be most practical to assign this task to a dispatcher or
scheduler. The key, according to Hartley, is to be aware
of your organization's responsibilities.
"It's easy for a small operator to say they'll never
reach 10,000 tons of emissions in international flights,
but there's danger in just assuming you're exempt and
ignoring it," Hartley added. "You never know when
your fleet will expand, mission profile will change to
include more international trips, or most importantly
potential changes will occur to regulations, policies and
processes."
Universal Weather recently ran historic data of
hundreds of operators to get a clearer view of the
scenario and discovered more operators will be subject
to CORSIA reporting requirements than originally
expected.
