AVIDYNE received a Federal Aviation Administration supplemental type certificate for R10.2.3.1 software for the IFD Series.
Among the new features and product improvements included with R10.2.3.1
is Avidyne's GPS Legacy Avionics Support option, which allows the IFD Series
to interface with existing Pro Line 21 EFIS systems to provide flight director
and autopilot coupling of SBAS/LPV approaches, while eliminating the need for
more costly OEM display hardware and software upgrades.
"With our popular IFD Series gaining wider adoption throughout the GA
market, Avidyne is now actively targeting legacy turbine-class aircraft, starting
with the Citation and King Air fleets, where there are a significant numbers of
aircraft operators who are looking for more affordable safety and performance
enhancements like GPS-based SBAS/LPV approaches, synthetic vision,
electronic charts, ADS-B, and wireless connectivity," said Avidyne CEO Dan
Schwinn. "We have worked closely with several key installation partner-dealers
to put together a turnkey package that delivers cost-effective, reduced downtime solutions that will dramatically improve their ability to fly in today's airspace
and keep these aircraft flying safely and efficiently for a long time to come."

Avidyne also received an FAA parts manufacturing authorization approval for
its new SkyTrax100B ADS-B receiver.
According to the company, the SkyTrax100B is a 978 MHz ADS-B receiver
that provides FIS-B weather and ADS-B/ADS-R/TIS-B traffic for Avidyne
EX-Series multifunction displays and IFD Series of FMS/GPS/Nav/Comms.
FAA-PMA provides approval for installation in certified aircraft. The retail price
of the SkyTrax100B is $2,499.

Gogo Business Aviation
GOGO BUSINESS AVIATION announced
its plans to build a 5G network for aviation.
According to the company, the new air-toground network will be designed for use
on business aviation aircraft, commercial
regional jets, and smaller mainline jets operating within the contiguous United States and
Canada. Gogo expects the network to be
available for business and commercial aviation in 2021.
"We expect to launch Gogo 5G at the
same time as the terrestrial telecommunications companies are deploying the same
generation of technology on the ground - a
first in the in-flight connectivity industry,"
said Oakleigh Thorne, Gogo CEO. "Gogo
5G is the next step in our technology evolution and is expected to deliver an unparalleled user experience, pairing high performance with low latency and network-wide
redundancy."
Gogo will build the 5G network on its
existing infrastructure of more than 250
towers and will use unlicensed spectrum in
the 2.4 GHz range, along with a proprietary
modem and advanced beamforming technology. Gogo's 5G infrastructure will support all spectrum types (licensed, shared,
unlicensed) and bands (mid, high, low),
and will allow Gogo to take advantage of
new advances in technology as they are
developed. Similar to how wireless carriers
provide redundancy across their networks,
Gogo will continue to employ its 3G and
4G networks throughout the continental
U.S. and in Canada that will provide backup to the 5G network when needed.
