And the reason for unsubscribing may have nothing
at all to do with you and your company. Maybe the
recipient sold his airplane or lost his medical or is
about to file bankruptcy. Who knows? If someone
wants off your list, make sure that happens.
Test, test, test. Your recipients will be reading
your emails on a variety of devices - from phones to
laptops to iPads. Make sure photographs and graphics
appear as they should no matter what device is used.
It's not always sell, sell, sell. You are the
avionics expert, and your customers rely on you for
your expertise. You are privy to a lot of information
- for example, the new products from the companies

your shop represents - that you can share with your
customers. If you go to EAA AirVenture, you might
send a report to your customers on what you saw
and learned. After the annual AEA International
Convention & Trade Show, you might send an
email with a subject line "Five New Products Just
Introduced." With a customer's permission, you could
do an email of the "before" and "after" of a panel.
Sure, you're selling with these emails, but a subtle
sell often works better than a blatant one. And once
your customers see that your emails have interesting
information, your open rate may improve.
If you put yourself in the place of your customers
and think about what you like in emails, what annoys
you, or what you find useful, you'll start with the
right mindset to ensure that your email marketing is
