f you need ground support equipment such as jacks
and tugs, ground power units and test equipment,
hydraulics and weight scales, Carolina GSE has
it all. Once you have what you need, the staff can also
troubleshoot, repair and overhaul your equipment and see to
it that you have the proper spare parts.
"We handle a wide range of ground support
equipment, including everything from axle jacks
to tripod jacks, from small ground power units
to larger 400-hertz units for large Gulfstream
and Global Express-type aircraft all the way
up to commercial aircraft," said John Werner,
president and owner of Carolina GSE.
"Along with ground support
equipment, our
expanded capabilities
include avionics test
equipment, too."
Headquartered in
Greenville, North Carolina, Carolina GSE serves a broad
customer base, including private aircraft owners, corporate
flight departments, fixed-base operators, repair stations,
military services and commercial airlines. The company
handles customer service and support in Greenville,

equipment and parts distribution from its center in Chicago,
Illinois, and equipment repair and parts distribution from
New Bern, North Carolina.
In June, Carolina GSE moved into the New Bern facility,
a new 20,000-square-foot center that provides room for
Werner to grow Carolina GSE's overhaul, repair and
maintenance side of the business. The interior
buildout took about six months to complete.
"We worked with the Craven County 100
Alliance, an economic development group,
to expand into the Craven County Industrial
complex as it was only a shell building,"
Werner said. "We had to put in cement,
electrical and everything
else we needed to move
our operations into the
new facility."
As far as what's
new in ground support
equipment these days, manufacturers are introducing more
electrical and battery-operated versions over gas and diesel,
especially for tugs, according to Werner. Customers like it.
"The electrical and battery-operated equipment seems
to take a lot less servicing over time," he said. "You don't
