Since then, Salazar has served in a variety of engineering,
inspection and maintenance roles for airlines, repair stations
and aircraft engineering companies.
"In all these years, there are not many electronic parts
of an aircraft that I have not, at one time or another,
worked on," he said. "Since I was part of the flight crew,
I know how aircraft operate and what to look for. These
real-life skills provide me with a better perspective for
troubleshooting and resolving issues efficiently."
Salazar started LB Aircraft Engineering in 2008 with
his wife, Linda Barquero-Salazar, who serves as company
president.
Barquero-Salazar earned a doctorate in law from La
Universidad Católica and has more than 20 years of
entrepreneurial experience in the United States and Latin
America. Salazar calls her the driving force behind the
company and his trusted partner in the business.
"Linda has a great business mind and has worked hand
in hand with me since day one in growing and establishing
the direction of the company," he said. "I really am proud of
the work we do for our customers. We have wonderful hardworking employees."
Traffic drives technology
As for the future of avionics and systems engineering,

Salazar points to the International Civil Aviation Organization's
2016 Global Air Navigation Plan showing that global air traffic
has expanded two-fold once every 15 years since 1977. It's
expected to double again over the next 15 years. Traffic safety
will continue to drive technology forward.
"All of this traffic requires technological upgrades in
communications and navigation for aircraft with outdated
equipment," Salazar said. "You can look at a modernized
cockpit with an EFIS glass panel replacing the old dials to see
an example of the technological advancements.
"The required navigation performance systems for landing at
airports are very specific, and digital components are becoming
a necessity. The regulatory agencies will continue issuing
mandates requiring these upgrades."
Salazar enjoys working with the latest technology and seeing
a large project come together successfully. But, unlike the early
days, he doesn't welcome the extended travel away from home.
"I always tell our employees to have their passports ready
for travel at all times in this industry," he said. "We usually
have to go where the aircraft is for initial surveying, later for
installation, and then for test flights and certification. The
work has taken us all over the world." q
