and Latin America. The U.S. fleet consists of 12 Kodiak
100 turboprops, 14 Cessna Grand Caravans and Caravans,
a Cessna T210R, multiple Cessna Stationairs, three Cessna
Skyhawks and a Pilatus PC-12.
The flights support the work of more than 500 Christian
and humanitarian organizations, delivering missionaries,
vaccines and medical personnel, evacuating the injured,
assisting with community development, and providing
disaster relief. In isolated regions, the aircraft are often the
only safe and reliable way for MAF to bring hope and healing
to those in need.
Modifying aircraft for perilous fieldwork
The aircraft operate in tough environments from dense
forests to rugged mountains to tropical rivers. Of the more
than 450 remote landing sites utilized by MAF, most are
rough, unimproved dirt and grass airstrips in small clearings.

With such remote operations so far from hangars,
workbenches and tool kits, pilots often double as their own
aircraft mechanic. Some 67 of the 80 actively flying MAF
pilots are certified A&P technicians capable of handling
mechanical issues in the field if needed.
While MAF's mission hasn't changed over the last 75
years, the technology in the cockpit has. Every aircraft
purchased by MAF undergoes significant avionics
modifications and numerous structural modifications to
endure the rigors of operating in the field. Technicians
perform the upgrades at the organization's FAA repair
station in Nampa, Idaho, which is also approved as an
Indonesian foreign repair station, and at its partner's
maintenance facility in Mareeba, Far North Queensland,
Australia.
