INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS & SUPPORT INC. was awarded Transport
Canada Civil Aviation supplemental type certification for its ThrustSense
Autothrottle on the Pilatus PC-12 Legacy and NG. According to the company, the
ThrustSense Autothrottle is the first turboprop full regime autothrottle, certified by
the FAA in 2017.
Following several U.S. installations, the first Canadian installation on a PC-12
Legacy with the G600 flight deck was just completed. ThrustSense has already
been TCCA certified and operating in Canada as part of the PC-12 IS&S integrated
NexGen cockpit. Installations can be completed by any PC-12 service center.
The IS&S ThrustSense Autothrottle is a full regime autothrottle from takeoff roll
to landing phases of flight including go-around. ThrustSense incorporates engine
and speed exceedance protection. During high pilot workload, it prevents the
airplane from getting dangerously slow or fast and protects against over-torque
and over-temp, enhancing the safety and capability of the PC-12 Legacy and NG.
Command of the autothrottle is housed in a Flight Instrument Standby that provides standby functionality and allows for no structural modifications to the existing
throttle quadrant.
The ThrustSense Autothrottle is available as a stand-alone installation on the
PC-12 Legacy and NG or integrated with the IS&S NextGen Flight Deck for retrofit
on the PC-12 Legacy. The ThrustSense Autothrottle is also certified on the King Air
platform and features certified VMCa protection against loss of control.

SHADIN AVIONICS introduced its
new Volta Series data converter platform as a software free complement
to the Avionics Interface System
Configurable Converter Platform.
First in the new series is the Volta60 Discrete to ARINC 429 converter.
The V60 is a fully customizable data
converter for discrete to ARINC 429
applications. According to the company, Shadin will use this product
to address the growing customer
demand for such a plug-and-play
avionics package to digitally interpret
discrete electronics throughout an
aircraft. The rugged design utilizes a
sealed enclosure, Mil-Standard circular connecter, and is DO-160 qualified. It weighs less than 1 pound and
consumes under 10 watts of power.
The current design employs 16 discrete inputs that sense ground/open
or supply/open levels and then transmits the status over a user specified
ARINC 429 label.
"With the exponential growth of digital electronic control on aircraft, we
have seen tremendous demand for a
reliable and customizable discrete to
ARINC converter, and the Volta-60 is
the exact product to meet that need,"
said Trevor Lund, Shadin's director
of product management. "The V60
allows aircraft owners to avoid costly
upgrades to primary avionics systems
to meet the growing number of discrete I/O on the aircraft."

Genesys Aerosystems
GENESYS AEROSYSTEMS announced that a Pakistan Aeronautical
Complex MFI-17 Super Mushshak made a successful first flight with a full
Genesys Aerosystems glass cockpit.
According to the company, the Super Mushshak is a military training aircraft
capable of +7 and -3 Gs and features automatic, hands-off spin recovery. The
two-seat aircraft is equipped with three Genesys flight displays, dual solid-state
gyro/air-data sensors, and dual GPS receivers. The system also includes dual
Genesys digital multi-mode radios with integrated VHF comm, UHF comm, VHF
nav, localizer/glideslope, and marker beacon, triple-redundant flight management
system, radio/audio management, and terrain awareness and warning system,
and digital engine/systems display.
