Duncan Aviation is the first major MRO to use the AeroClave fogging system to disinfect the cockpit and cabin of every customer aircraft coming to
their facilities. The process must be completed before any technicians enter the aircraft for inspection or maintenance work.

To clean LCD displays, use a soft-dampened, lintfree cloth with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol
or an electronics cleaning product like an iCloth.
*	 For exposed surfaces such as knobs, buttons and
bezels, use a damp, lint-free cloth with a small
amount of an antibacterial soap (one that does not
contain ammonia, bleach or other harsh chemicals)
to wipe the surfaces. Dry immediately to remove
residue.
*	 Remember, avionics and instruments are not rated
as "waterproof." Spraying or wetting the units
to the extent where moisture could penetrate the
exterior surfaces could damage the unit.
If you don't have the AeroClave system and want
to disinfect the cockpit and cabin seats, carpeting and
sidewalls, Vital Oxide and other approved disinfectants
can be applied on surfaces using a commercial atomized
spray unit. But take the time to test any chemicals on an
inconspicuous part of upholstery and carpeting before you
use it.
Also, it's a good idea that after the recommended
application dwell time has elapsed, put on your mask
and gloves and wipe all surfaces to remove any visible
residue. It's an added step, but well worth it.
Non-chemical warfare
You may be thinking, "OK, I need to be proactive with
cleaning my customers' airplanes, but my shop is too busy
to spare the manpower." Well, the folks at Aviation Clean

Air have a hands-off solution for you.
They've partnered with International Aero Engineering
to develop the ACA Ionization Purification System for
proactively killing harmful pathogens and disinfecting
aircraft interior surfaces. It's a ground-use only version of
ACA's patented airborne cabin ionization system.
Simply put, the ACA system works electronically to
create positive and negative ions, which attack water
vapor droplets throughout the cabin. This sets off a natural
reaction that effectively kills harmful pathogens and
odor-causing microbes. As an added benefit, it leaves the
aircraft smelling as fresh as a passing spring rain shower.
Designed for hands-free operation, the portable, 110
VAC ionization and blower unit is placed in the aircraft's
cabin. Once it's switched on, the proactive bipolar ion
distribution system pushes ion-enriched air through the
cabin. Because there are no chemicals or fluids, the system
won't harm sensitive avionics, instruments or wiring.
"The proactive, natural purification process uses
no chemicals and produces no harmful ozone or other
emissions," stated ACA's managing member, Howard
Hackney. "It will also not damage fabrics or carpeting.
In addition, it reduces the number of personnel and
downtime required to conduct a thorough disinfection."
While ACA's portable units are great for pre- and postmaintenance applications, every time crew and passengers
board the aircraft, so do all the nasties. To help take their
