E5 enables owners to
remove their vacuum system and other backup indicators.
"The feedback from our customers was clear and
we listened," said Mark Ferrari, vice president of sales
and customer support. "We replaced the CDI with
a traditional HSI and added the additional optional
software features in this latest E5 release. This affordable
and highly capable glass flight display offers an
economic means for aircraft owners to remove outdated
and high-maintenance vacuum systems and air-driven
gyros for the approximate cost of steam gauge overhaul."
The E5 can be converted to the Evolution Pro MAX that
enables owners to add software options like synthetic vision
and angle of attack. Aspen emphasized that the Evolution
E5 EFI is approved for IFR flight when installed with a
panel-mounted IFR GPS. When installed without a panelmount GPS, the E5 EFI is approved for VFR flight only.
In a separate announcement in early April, Aspen
Avionics reduced its pricing on multidisplay systems and
said it will offer Evolution Synthetic Vision as standard
for new installations of the MAX series of primary and
multifunction displays. Upgrades such as angle of attack
and ADS-B enablement software have also been reduced.

Applied Avionics
Applied Avionics was incorporated in June 1968 and
got its start in avionics manufacturing by producing
custom edge-lighted panels, knobs and annunciators for
use in aircraft cockpits.
The company's NEXSYS Component Technology
was introduced in 2010, allowing a variety of
independent mix-and-match electronic components to be
incorporated in a switch body or in a dedicated behindthe-panel NEXSYS Module. These components allow
electrical system designers to maximize functionality

while minimizing cockpit real estate, reducing
installation labor, and simplifying the bill of material
required. NEXSYS Component Technology allows
virtually unlimited custom configurations that uniquely
address the designer's specific functional requirements.
After being named the AEA Associate Member
of the Year a year ago in 2019, Applied Avionics
recently introduced a new product called the NEXSYS
Combination Solid-State Relay, or SSRC.
According to Joe Stiffler, NEXSYS product line
manager, this new 8-pin device takes the standard
SSR to another level. The new combined component
packages together four internally connected SSRs,
which increases wiring efficiencies by reducing the need
for external splices. It allows for synchronized normally
open and normally closed signal switching with a fivedirectional control bridge, which allows DC voltages
to be applied in either direction to provide design
flexibility.
