VHF communication in the frequency range of 118136 MHz, or optionally 118-156 MHz. The radios offer
25 or 8.33 kHz channelization with transmitting power
of 16 or 25 watts. An embedded UHF 225-400 MHz
communication capability also is available as an option.
Being remote-mounted, the radio is designed to interface
to a host controller/display capable of controlling nav/
comm functions via RS-232, RS-422 or ARINC-429 serial
interfaces.

The Genesys Digital Radio can operate at up to
55,000 feet, and between -55 and +70 degrees Celsius.
Genesys said the radio has achieved software design
assurance level "A," the highest-level safety assessment
available, plus MIL-STD 704E and 810G compliance to
accommodate all aviation segments.

Innovative Solutions & Support
New developments in flight control systems - especially
increasing capabilities and applications - is one of the
avionics industry's recent success stories. They're also
becoming more accessible to a wider range of aircraft, both
for new manufacture and field installation. But we're not
talking about autopilot systems alone - autothrottle systems
are becoming more mainstream, too, including systems
like ThrustSense from Innovative Solutions & Support, or

The Exton, Pennsylvania-based company is a systems

integrator that designs and manufactures flight guidance
and cockpit display systems. ThrustSense is IS&S's
autothrottle system, FAA-approved aboard the Pilatus
PC-12/NG airplanes, plus the Beechcraft B200 Super King
Air. On both singles and twins, ThrustSense continually
monitors multiple parameters to manage engine power
through all phases of flight, including protections against
over-temperature conditions and excessive power levels.
IS&S's ThrustSense autothrottle system "is a full regime
autothrottle from takeoff roll to landing phases of flight
including go-around," the company said. The system's
controller is housed in a standby flight instrument instead
of the throttle quadrant, easing installation and eliminating
structural modifications to the existing throttle quadrant.
For twins, additional protections include detecting engine
loss due to a drop in turbine speed or oil pressure. The
system then "computes the amount of rudder authority loss
due to the reduction of airflow over the rudder and executes
the necessary reduction in thrust from the remaining engine
to prevent the loss of directional control," according to the
company. By working to prevent airspeed from dropping
below a twin's minimum controllable airspeed, ThrustSense
helps ensure safe control of the aircraft.
In addition to its U.S. certifications, ThrustSense is now
Transport Canada-certified, and is operating in Canada
as part of the PC-12 IS&S integrated NexGen cockpit.
