ADS-B OPTIONS IN 2021
Continued from page 59

can negate their possible anger and frustration by letting
them know that diversity is not now required in airspace
over the continental U.S. So, if the pilot operates only
in U.S. airspace and below 18,000 feet mean sea level,
he or she can relax and exhale. Conversely, however,
diversity is a requirement - or will be - for many other
countries. One of them is close by: Canada.

While Canada has blinked on the diversity requirement
- faced with the need to go through a rulemaking process
before enforcing the diversity requirement - the potential
exists for other air traffic service providers to require the
diversity solution to provide coverage where none now
exists, such as in parts of Central America, the adjacent
Pacific Ocean to the west and in transoceanic airspace
almost anywhere an ANSP monitors.
Fortunately for American general aviation operators
who want to cover all the bases, solutions for ADS-B Out
with diversity already exist - and more are coming.
