Hawaii
Yucatan

While exploring the ancient civilizations in Yucatan, Mexico, students climbed the country's tallest temple, Nohoch Mul, in the Mayan city of Coba. "We experienced
not only one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World,
but also the culture that cannot be captured in one picture.
We learned about history and enjoyed the natural beauty
of the world that you cannot find in the classroom," junior
Madeline McCrary said.

Two interterm courses took place in Hawaii:
History and Culture of our 50th State and
Geocaching History, in which students used
geocaching to explore a new location and
discover its history. But as the Baker family is
known to do, the two groups met up to visit Pearl Harbor and share their educational
experience.

hat if you could take what you learned in
the classroom-the stories of ancient civilizations and the educational and economic
systems in developing countries-and experience it in person? Well, that's exactly what Baker travel
interterms aim to do.
Every January, Baker students participate in "three
weeks of WOW," where they take a one-of-a-kind class

either on the Baldwin City campus or in a far-off location.
This year interterm courses sent students to the beaches of
Thailand, the top of a Mayan pyramid, the banks of the Nile
River, Scotland, Hawaii, Uganda, and the Caribbean. Interterm is a chance for students to learn outside of classrooms
and textbooks and to learn about something they may not
otherwise experience.
Dr. Ryan Gibb, the leader of the Challenges in the Developing World interterm in Uganda, believes that these three
weeks are an incredible addition to his students' educations.
