Uganda

In addition to white-water rafting the Nile River,
students in the Challenges in the Developing World interterm course explored Uganda's quest to develop economically. They
learned about operating a nonprofit women's sewing cooperative, inspected rural
schools in the area, and went on a safari.

Thailand

"Seeing how different another culture is from your
own-especially because this was my first time out of
the country-is truly a grounding and humbling experience," said Jessie Wilson, pictured here at the Hutsadin
Elephant Foundation in Hua Hin.

Interterm Classes
"The experiential learning aspect of the interterm gives
students an indelible, firsthand understanding of the challenges and paths for individuals in the developing world to
improve their lives," Gibb said.
During the Thailand interterm course, aspiring teacher
senior Jessie Wilson learned firsthand about the education
system in southern Thailand and plans to implement what
she experienced into her own classroom after graduation.

"This experience enhanced my education because it
allowed me to see what kinds of resources we have here
in America that other countries could only dream about,"
Wilson said. "What I can get my hands on to use in the
classroom is unheard of when teaching in Thailand. You
only have a select few resources that you have to be creative with, when here in America creativity is done for you
with a simple Google or Pinterest search. This experience
opened my eyes in more ways than one."
