George E. Shore,
'54, served on the
Baker Board of
Trustees for many
years and was
inducted into the
Athletic Hall of Fame
in 1996. While a
student he was a member of Sigma
Phi Epsilon fraternity and was named
to the Dean's Honor Roll. A dedicated
athlete, Shore was an All-Conference
guard in football, was a four-time
letterman, and served as co-captain
of the team. He also was active in
intramurals and was named CoHomecoming King. After graduation
he became a pioneer in the health
and fitness industry, opening
numerous fitness clubs in the region
and the southeast, and remained
involved in the health club industry
for the duration of his career. In the
late 1990s, he designed and funded
a new weight training facility at Baker,
and the George Shore Weight Room,
located in Mabee Hall, is named in
his honor.
