Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections September 2016 - 12

Society Reports and knowledge sharing to a large, new audience. A representative from the Natural Sciences Collections Association (NatSCA) attended the meeting and put forward a proposal for a potential collaboration with the Geology Curators Group (GCG), NatSCA and SPNHC. It was suggested that this proposal should be sent to council for consideration. In the coming year we will continue to support and expand international relations where possible in keeping with the SPNHC strategy. We also will review the membership of the past few years to see if the society has indeed become more international. Respectfully submitted, Sue Ryder, Chair Federal Collections The Sessional Committee on Federal Collections is tasked with identifying ways to improve communication between U.S. Federal agencies and non-Federal repositories regarding the development of policies and procedures for the management of Federal Collections. The committee is currently working on a positional paper reviewing current challenges and potential solutions in this area, which is due for publication later this year. Finally, an article in this copy of Collection Conversations by committee members Terry Childs and Elizabeth Varner will discuss current efforts by the Department of the Interior.
