Announcements SPNHC and ECN - Official Organizational Partners We are pleased to announce that the Entomological Collections Network (ECN) and the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC) are officially organizational partners through a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations. Under the auspices of the MoU, ECN and SPNHC have agreed to automatically grant a place on the Council (ex-officio) of each organization for the President (or a selected delegate) for the purposes of keeping both organizations informed about the activities of the other, to promote cooperation and perhaps even co-located or cosponsored meetings and symposia in the future (for example, next year's SPNHC and ECN meetings are both being held in Denver, CO), and to work on higher-level policy-related topics of mutual concern when the need arises. We will also be working together to encourage increased participation by the entomological collections community in submitting and publishing papers in Collection Forum, SPNHC's journal, particularly with regards to papers related to entomological collections topics, policies, procedures, etc. As the Presidents of SPNHC and ECN, we are delighted to form this partnership and to create a mechanism for our two organizations to work together on behalf of our respective constituents and collectively on behalf of collections and those who work in collections. We hope you will embrace every opportunity that this new partnership affords the members of each organization and that it will lead to many more collaborative projects between the two groups in the future. Rose Award, President's Award, and Honorary Memberships The SPNHC Recognition and Grants Committee is inviting nominations for the following: The Carolyn L. Rose Award is our Society's highest honor and is given to a practitioner (SPNHC membership not required) whose work and efforts have promoted the values and objectives of the Society. Nominations should include a letter of nomination, a current curriculum vitae, and letters of recommendation. The President's Award is presented to a member or former member of SPNHC, whose activities have furthered the objectives of the Society through outstanding committee work, prolonged officer roles, or promotion of activities of the Society. Nominations should include a letter of nomination, a current curriculum vitae, and letters of recommendation. Honorary Membership can be conferred by Council in recognition of outstanding contributions to natural history collections or to the Society. Honorary Members have all the rights and privileges of regular members. The Vendor Recognition Award is presented to commercial entities to recognize long-term support of the Society and/or the Society's annual meetings. Nominations should include a letter of recommendation highlighting evidence of contributions. The Global Registry of Biodiversity Repositories: A Call for Community Curation The Biodiversity Data Journal has just published "The Global Registry of Biodiversity Repositories: A Call for Community Curation" (http://bdj.pensoft.net/articles.php?id=10293; doi: 10.3897/BDJ.4.e10293) as its first Forum Paper. The registry was created by the Consortium for the Barcode of Life and is managed by Scientific Collections International, both of which are hosted by the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History.
