Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections September 2016 - 23

Announcements ments, the reception will feature Passport to Partners activities and prizes. The banquet will be held at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science on Thursday, June 22. Bring your dancing shoes! Tours of the recently constructed Avenir Collections Center at Denver Museum of Nature & Science will be offered on Friday, June 23. The generosity of the SPNHC community in sharing skills, knowledge, and experience around building projects and collection facilities served as a great foundation for this project, and we are eager to celebrate with you next year in Denver! Fieldtrips Because Denver is located 5,280 feet above sea level, it is also known as the Mile High City. For this reason, we will be swapping the traditional schedule of workshops and field trips to give meeting participants a chance to get used to the altitude before launching into our action-packed trips. Workshops will be offered the first two days of the meeting, June 18-19, and field trips will be offered on the last day, June 24. Best of Denver - We will visit sites near Denver to spot dinosaur tracks, awe-inspiring geology, and fragments from ancient people, enjoy lunch at the Denver Botanic Gardens' Chatfield Farms, and then return to Denver to sample great microbrews. Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument - Visit one of the richest and most diverse fossil deposits nestled in a rich montane grassland and forest, which should be in full bloom during our visit. Nature to Nurture - Naturalists unite for this journey to one of Colorado's 14ers, Mount Evans, to enjoy vistas of the Rocky Mountains and spot delicate floral treasures as well as unique animals then return to Denver to spend the afternoon at the Denver Botanic Gardens and enjoy 23 acres packed full of species from Colorado and across the world, as well as a world-class outdoor art exhibit. Rocky Mountain Arsenal & National Wildlife Property Repository - Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, a 15,000-acre expanse of prairies and wetlands, has transitioned from prairie to farmland to war-time manufacturing site to wildlife sanctuary with bison, bald eagles and blackfooted ferrets. We will then step inside the National Wildlife Property Repository for a tour of this unique collection. September 2016 * 23
