Location and Accommodation
Dunedin is the Gaelic name for Edinburgh. It is New Zealand's city of the south, wearing its Scottish heritage with
pride. Surrounded by dramatic hills, and at the foot of a long,
picturesque harbour, Dunedin is one of the best-preserved
Victorian and Edwardian cities in the Southern Hemisphere.
The accommodation is good and plentiful; the nightlife buzzes with funky bars and delicious restaurants, and the natural
attractions are unique and fascinating. Don't miss a drive up
the Otago Peninsula - the views are endless, and the beaches are beautifully rugged. Nestled at the foot of Taiaroa Head
is the Royal Albatross Centre, the only place in the world on
the mainland where you can view Northern Royal Albatross
in their natural habitat. On Dunedin's doorstep you will also
find incredible wildlife including sea lions and some of the
world's rarest Yellow-eyed penguin colonies.
Events
Social events will include the traditional icebreaker reception to be held in the atrium of the Otago Museum. A vendor
reception, emerging museum professional's event, and a
rendezvous at one of Dunedin's craft beer venues will also be
programmed. The conference banquet will be held on campus
at the University of Otago. We will also be arranging a number of field trips which may include:
Orokonui Ecosanctuary
This is the flagship biodiversity project for the South Island
where multiple species of plants and animals are protected
from predators. A predator fence surrounds 307 hectares
of Coastal Otago forest, pests have been removed, habitat
enhanced with weed control and planting, and many rare and

Dunedin accommodation is diverse, from luxury and boutique hotels, to homestays, motels and backpackers. Our
city's compact nature means that many are close to the city
centre, so you can easily get to and from sites of interest.
There are 4 and 5 star hotels in the centre that are within 20
minutes' walk to the University, or quality motels and smaller
hotels within 10 minutes from the conference venue. We
are hoping to secure special rates with some of the hotels in
Dunedin so keep an eye out on our website.
