Royal Albatross Centre
The Royal Albatross Centre offers wildlife and cultural tours
of Taiaroa Head. Visit the world's only mainland breeding
colony of Royal Albatross, the historic Fort Taiaroa and see
the Little Blue Penguin colony at Pilots Beach. People come
from all over the world to enjoy the spectacular views on the
Otago Peninsula, the Wildlife Capital of New Zealand. With
its 20 km long harbour, Otago Peninsula is the home of an
abundance of magnificent, world-famous wildlife.
Hear stories of sea creatures and early settlers as you bus
along the scenic roads of the Otago Peninsula.
Monarch Cruises
As you cruise the length of the Otago Harbour, our skipper will show you Careys Bay historic fishing village, Port
Chalmers' busy wharves and the harbour's beautiful bays,
hills, farmland and forest. You'll learn about the harbour's
volcanic geology and its Maori and European history. Take
in surrounding sights with a hot or cold beverage, or snack
from our fully-licensed galley. Enjoy Monarch's fascinating
Wildlife Cruise around Taiaroa Head and the surrounding
coastline of dramatic cliffs. We will offer uninterrupted views
of the only mainland nesting place of Northern Royal Albatross in the world. Our skipper will expertly manoeuvre the
vessel whilst you watch the New Zealand Fur seals play and
Dunedin Botanic Gardens and propagation facility
The Dunedin Botanic Garden is New Zealand's first botanic
garden and holds the status of six-star Garden of International
Significance. The Botanic Garden celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2013, marking its position as New Zealand's first
botanic garden. It occupies 30.4 hectares in North Dunedin at
an altitude of 25-85 metres above sea level. The Garden has
hill views from sunny lawns, more than 6,800 plant species,
and the song of wild native bellbirds, wood pigeons and tui.
Dunedin Botanic Gardens - Propagation facility
Its wide range of horticultural and botanical collections
includes roses, the herbaceous and perennial borders, a rock
garden, New Zealand native plants, and four hectares of Rhododendron Dell with more than 3,000 rhododendrons. The
cultivation of rare and endangered native plant species is an
important aspect of the New Zealand Native Plant Collection.
