Web Committee
The website redesign is back! The Long
Range Planning Committee formed an
ad hoc Website Redesign Committee in
December 2017 to discuss potential options. More information will be available soon. In the meantime, the Web
Committee will continue to update the
current site and maintain it's blog and
jobs board. Not a subscriber? Why not?

It is also with great sadness that I report, Ann Molineux, my co-chair, boss
and friend, passed away this February.
She will be deeply missed by those within the scientific community, and the many organizations in which she was actively
involved. A memorial service is being arranged for March 24,
2018, at the University of Texas Jackson School of Geosciences.
Please feel free to contact me with your questions, suggestions, job postings and calendar events at

Sessional Committees
International Relations
At the Denver meeting in June 2017, we had a very useful
and well-attended meeting to discuss the progress and the
future of the International Relations Sessional Committee.
The committee was originally set up as sessional committee,
which generally means that it will have a set remit or project

to fulfill and then disband. As the remit
of the committee has largely been met,
the chair gave a synopsis of what had
been achieved by the group at the committee meeting and with a written report
to Council. At the committee meeting
there was a discussion as to whether
there was still a need for the sessional
committee and if so, what areas still needed to be addressed
and how it should move forward.
There were suggestions about setting up nodes, translation,
and the uses of social media to become more accessible to international audiences. We also discussed how we might look
at other similar successful organisations and how they operate
their international programmes, e.g., ICOM-NATHIST. We
might also learn from and involve other disciplines looking at
specific issues across all collection types. From the meeting
it seemed clear that there is still a lot of work to be done on
international relations within SPNHC, and the council agreed.
We have been given a new remit which has been updated in
the leadership manual, and we will do our best to achieve the
goals set.
I am delighted that Deborah Paul, a SPNHC Member-atLarge, has joined this committee and has already been a great
help in moving our agenda forward. We are also joined by
Armando Mendez and Mariana Di Giacomo as EPG liaison,
and we now have a capable and enthusiastic group committed
to investigate and develop the international ambitions of the
Society.
Respectfully submitted,
Suzanne Ryder, Chair
