Chairman Training Critical
to Success of Committees

The 2017 representatives of the 18 NCIS Regional/State Crop Insurance Committees met at
NCIS in late March for training and instruction.
The committees have been around for many
years, dating back to the early days of the crop
insurance industry. Even though the structure
and scope of the committees have changed over
the years, these groups are critical to the communication flow within the industry and are organized to identify issues that need attention and
making recommendations to the NCIS Board of
Directors.
While the elected chairman provides leadership and direction, the real strength of each individual committee comes from the committed
participation of all its members. All companies
are strongly encouraged to actively participate
in the committees in the states where they write
business.
To ensure that these committees understand
their role, function properly and are effective in
accomplishing their responsibilities, NCIS hosts
an annual training event to help the chairman
succeed by preparing them for their official re-
sponsibilities. Specific instruction is provided on:
* Antitrust laws and compliance;
* NCIS Bylaws and Crop Insurance Committee
Guidelines
* History of the NCIS research program and its
importance;
* Planning and conducting effective meetings
and summer schools and field days; and,
* How to make recommendations about policies, procedures or research.
