forming holes for holding basket strings
or fishnets. Most have terra cotta legs
with bare-foot while others wear wooden
"sabots" (shoes). The dolls are found both
in work or holiday dress.
A well-known cap or "Le Soleil"
which is constructed of lace is often
seen. Metallic-colored beads, usually one
or two strung together, are sewn onto
the cap on each side of the head (like
earrings). It is said that the hat, with the
lace circling the head, is representative of
the rays of the sun outlining the face.

mentioned in "Fisherwives' and Fishgirls'

This small 9 ½-inch French bisque
shoulder head has seen better days but
is still lovely. Possibly an FG, her clothing
is too delicate to remove to check for a
mark. She has the navy wool tunic and
striped skirt with red under-apron. The
lace border of her hat still remains but the
back is gone, revealing her cork pate.

wearing many different ethnic outfits but
are only occasionally found dressed as
fisherwomen. This 12-inch girl is marked
"8/0". Her outfit consists of the striped
skirt, brown wool vest and shoes and
socks. Her socket head has an open
mouth with teeth, brown eyes and a
blonde mohair wig. Three gold beads
hang down on each side of her cap.
