The UFDC office staff, board and convention chair people work very hard to
make this week a memorable one for everyone attending and they also help
with anything that may pop up. When you settle in to your room and are able to
review the schedule of events for the week remember how many people worked
to put this together. So much to do and so little time! How to fit it all in?
The Ice Cream Social is an opportunity to meet your UFDC officers and regional
directors. While enjoying a cold treat and also freshly popped popcorn this year, friends
relaxed and discussed upcoming programs and activities. It was nice to visit with young
friends from Washington State who attend every year with mom and grandma.
By Wednesday, the convention was in full swing. Dynamic Dialogues with
members sharing their interests were standing room only as people wanted to
learn more about black dolls, Hitty, trunks, Madame Alexander, composition
dolls, Russian Nesting dolls, Steiff pets, celluloid dolls, Ronnaug Petterssen
dolls, childrens' glassware, Spanish & Mexican dolls, Mimi Kay dolls,
Mignonette and more. Our speaker from Mexico gifted attendees with lovely
dolls from her dialogues. Another allowed people at her table to play dolls,
passing out bags of clothes for the dolls to be redressed.
The workshops and seminars went on all day. What a great way to learn
something new in a classroom setting. The presenters are experts in their fields
and share their knowledge so all of us can learn. Seminars with wonderful
speakers educated us about many types of dolls, researching dolls, repairing
dolls, costuming, running club meetings, and more!
Our convention time is filled with so many wonderful events that it is
sometimes hard to choose among them. Opening ceremonies and the Grand
Opening of the Salesroom add to the excitement of convention. We all hope to
find the perfect doll we've been looking for, or maybe something else catches
our eye and we have to have it. The dealers who search all year to offer the
best of the best to us, also give programs and seminars, so it is a hectic time for
them as well. Opening night of the salesroom is not for the faint of heart. The
excitement to find a special doll draws a large turnout to the room. Be sure to
make time in your busy schedule to visit the salesroom!
