up in a wealthy family and made the house in her
thirties and forties reflecting the privileged life of
her childhood. The House was probably made by
a known manufacturer, and later had rooms added
on to the right of the staircase. Ladies are about to
take tea in the drawing room, fashionably furnished
with gilt mock bamboo furniture. A dog is curled
up on the floor and a tiny copy of a leading
newspaper rests on a chair. Sophia, the mistress of
the house: "I love the creams and gold I've chosen for
the drawing room, and, after consulting some household
guides, I had John's billiard room and the dining room
decorated in stronger, darker colours as those rooms
really are more his domain."

two-story, was a gift to Peggy from her father
Walter who was a partner in Lines Bros, a toy
manufacturing dynasty that was especially known
for their dollhouses. It was made especially
for Peggy at a Lines Bros factory and is similar

to others first seen in their 1927 catalog's Mayflower series.
A reservoir in the chimney on the right stores water that is
delivered to the bath below and to the kitchen faucets. The
spigot under the kitchen drains the water. The dollhouse bears a
strong resemblance to the Leigh Place, the Lines' home in Surrey.
Furniture came from Lines, Westacre Village, and Elgin Ltd of
Enfield that made the canopied bed with barley twist posts.
