Far left - Cissy in 1958 No. 22-61 powder
blue pleated floral brocade 3/4 length
gown with attached matching wrap and
waist accented with red roses.
Bottom left - 18th century fashion doll
or Pandora; circa 1755-1760. Made of
wood and covered in gesso. Pandora's
were used from the 14th century to
convey the latest fashion among the
courts of Europe. These dolls were
considered to be more accurate than
word of mouth. They were invented as
a means of conveying costume detail
long before the technology of the
woodcut and copperplate were available
to create the fashion plate.
