Shimada Koen (Shimada-san), noted gosho maker, continues the tradition started by his family 159 years ago. "Mizuhiki-de gosho" (Sago Ningyo no Le doll museum) has a presentation ribbon painted on the forehead. Beginning in the late 18th century. Gosho that were created and presented as formal gifts are often found with these presentation ribbons. Shimada-san's workshop in Kyoto is like a walk back in time. This gosho by Shimada Koen wears a remnant of a 150 year old kimono. The spirit of this gosho called out to me and now is part of my collection. DOLL NEWS * UFDC.ORG 127http://ufdc.org
