Without question other factories in Germany produced great character dolls, such as Simon & Halbig, Gerbrüder Heubach, Kley & Hahn, and Armand Marseille as the early 1900s during a period of great growth and imagination in much of the German doll market. The advent of the character doll movement ushered in a time of great artistic expression never before permitted and the results for doll collecting are extraordinary. Mary was an avid researcher and her book is an invaluable asset to the study of German character dolls. Before beginning an in-depth look at the critically acclaimed and highly coveted K✡R 100 series, a small amount of background information is needed about what triggered this renaissance of doll production.
