"Pinocchio" and "Jiminy Cricket" were made in for Christmas 1939 by Ideal in anticipation of Walt Disney's release of the full-length cartoon, Pinocchio. "Jiminy" measures eight inches while this "Pinocchio" is nine inches and came in several other sizes. "Figaro," Pinocchio's ever-faithful pet cat in the Disney version of Pinocchio is not attributed to Kallus, but given that he created the other molded composition characters for the film, it seems odd that he did not also work on "Figaro." Knickerbocker produced this seven and one-half inch doll in 1940. The "Philip Morris" character is a rare Flexy version of the "Bell Hop" character that advertised the company's tobacco products. He was played by actor Johnny Roventini. Wearing the original pin, the doll was likely manufactured by Ideal beginning in 1939. 134 FALL 2017
