Sunshine Doll Club of Florida

he Sunshine Doll Club of Florida, Region 9, sponsored
a Mother's Day Tea Party display at the Village
of Palm Springs Library in the lobby. The display was
available for the entire month of May and consisted of a
variety of vintage and modern dolls, furniture, tea sets,
and related books. It was created by club members Donna
Sypniewski, Carol Hansen and Terrie Bradley. In addition
to the tea party lobby display, the club provided a program
the day before Mother's Day entitled, "A brief History of
Fashion Dolls," by Sharon Eastman, a Sunshine Doll Club
member. A display of vintage and modern fashion dolls
accompanied the power point program and discussion.
The library added an "Alice in Wonderland" themed
tea party complete with refreshments of tea, small cakes
and cucumber sandwiches provided by the Friends of
the Library. Decorations of Mad Hatter paper hats, card
soldiers and the Red Queen gave the meeting room a
festive look. The library Director, Suvi Manner, wore a
Victorian costume to add to the tea party atmosphere.
It was an enjoyable afternoon attended by mothers and
daughters (with a few fathers for good measure). The only
disappointment was that the little girls couldn't play with
the dolls on display. But several mothers now know what
Santa must bring next Christmas.

The Collins Sisters Memorial Doll Club of Great Falls Montana

he Collins Sisters Memorial Doll Club of Great Falls Montana
celebrated their 45th year as a United Federation of Doll Club
member with a luncheon at the Highwood Clubhouse. All 13
Collins Sisters members were present as well as members from the
other local doll clubs. Friends of members also attended. Lunch
was a potluck of sweet and sour meatballs, salads, rolls, and
desserts. Several members brought dolls and doll related items to
sell. A raffle of several items was held.
The doll club was formed in November 1971 with ten charter
members. The group applied for and was granted UFDC
membership on February 26 1972. The Collins Sisters Memorial
Doll Club was named in honor of three sisters who had taught
in Great Falls Public Schools for many years. Worldwide doll collecting had been
their hobby, which they shared with their students and the general public on many
occasions. Fanny B., the elder sister, had been the principal of the Hawthorn School
in Black Eagle, Montana. This school was renamed the Collin School in her honor.
Gertrude and Grace, the younger twins, also taught school. The sisters collected
antique dolls as a hobby and for use as teaching aids. For a period of time some of
their dolls were displayed in the doll museum at Portage, Montana.
