The Scholarship Fund was established to promote
original research leading to better knowledge,
understanding and appreciation of dolls. At present there
are four titled scholarships available that are endowed
by ongoing and directed donations. We do not have any
recipients this year.
The Apprentice Judge program will graduate two
candidates in the antique category - Pamela Berg French bisque; German bisque and Rebekah Kaufman
- Teddy bears; Cloth dolls. The Director appreciates the
efforts of instructors Sharon Zerkel and Neil Foster. We
congratulate the students who have completed their
courses as well as those continuing their journey.
The Director is responsible for providing programs
for the 2017 Convention. This year we have 10 programs
covering a variety of topics. Our speakers volunteer their
time and knowledge which is much appreciated.
UFDC University will launch at the Orlando
convention with a sneak peek at the upcoming courses
to be offered. Courses will be available online as well as
at convention and regionals. Research 101 will be offered
at this year's convention. Jonathan Green will serve as
University Chair.
The Director spent many months reviewing proposals
to update our present database program. The Executive
Committee approved the purchase of the Online/NXT
program which will provide UFDC with a more efﬁcient
and cost cutting database. Systems Coordinator, Matt
Haynes, will update and train the staff and Ofﬁcers in the
use of this new powerful tool.
The Director recommended the designing of a new
brochure that would replace previous versions. The
brochure will be available at the 2017 convention.
As I complete my term as ReAL Service Director,
I am pleased to report the efforts being made by the
Executive Committee, Collection Oversight Committee,
Fundraising Committee, staff and volunteers to improve
services to our membership. During the past two years,
my fellow ofﬁcers under the leadership of our president,
Janet Gula, have approved my recommendations to
move UFDC into a more positive position to improve
communication and visibility not only in our doll
community but to the general public. UFDC's future
looks bright as we enter a new era of technology and the
possibilities to grow our organization is within our reach.

Director of Convention Services
The 68th Annual UFDC Convention will be held
August 2-5, 2017. The purpose of convention is to hold
UFDC's Annual Meeting. The convention also provides
an opportunity for doll collectors from around the
world to experience educational activities, attend special
ticketed theme meal events, enjoy local sightseeing
opportunities, and shop in a salesroom offering a wide
variety of dolls and doll-related items. The convention
theme is "Une Journée de la Poupée - A Day in the Life of
a Doll." Artwork is based on the illustrations of Adrien
Marie in the 1881 book
book, L'Éducation De La Poupée.
This year convention is being held at the Rosen Centre
in Orlando, Florida.The UFDC room block has been ﬁlled
and the convention has met its hotel responsibilities. As
of June 15, 2017, full convention registration is 763 and
limited is 120, for a total of 883 attendees.
"Ma Petite," the souvenir doll for the 2017 convention,
was crafted by doll artist Helen Kish. A companion doll,
"Lisette," and companion outﬁts for the souvenir doll
will be offered for sale.
This year's pre-convention activities are tours to
Winter Park, Florida. Each tour will take participants
to the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum, home to the
world's most comprehensive collection of works by Louis
Comfort Tiffany. The museum is located in charming
Winter Park, Florida about a 30-minute drive from
the hotel. We have arranged for guided tours by the
museum's docents. One tour includes the museum and a
boat tour on an 18 passenger pontoon boat on the pristine
Winter Park chain of lakes. The other tour includes the
museum and The Sewing Studio.
Other pre-convention activities include a luncheon
and salesroom sponsored by our sister organization, the
Original Doll Artist Council of America.
This year's convention includes:
Eleven ticketed meal events with dolls from: Erika
Catellani, Berdine Creedy, Allen Cunningham, Ruby
Red Galleria, Mary Hoyer, Maggie Iacono, Darlene Lane,
Rosemarie Snyder, Robert Tonner, Gail Wilson, and R.
John Wright. Peg Farwell served as event coordinator,
working as the liaison with the sponsoring clubs. Peg is
sincerely thanked for all her hard work with the various
events.
Three meal events with exciting table favors but
no souvenir doll include the Newcomers and Friends
Breakfast, Breakfast with Robert Tonner, and The Dolls
of Dewees Cochran Lunch and Learn. Big thanks go out
to the clubs sponsoring the 14 meal events at Convention
2017!
