This is "Louise," the sweet "gigoteur" baby that begged to be
adopted (I just could not resist her), and this doll inspired me
to write this article. She is one of the most beautiful, sweetest
"gigoteurs" I have ever seen. The photos do not do her justice.
She was most likely never played with. "Louise" is displayed
here with her belongings. The beautiful all-original Steiner
baby bonnet and long baby dress have kept all their delicate
pink silk ribbons and lace. One may note that most of the
time, all-original "gigoteur" babies have a walking dress, only
a few have an original Steiner long baby gown. This might be
explained by the fact that the "gigoteur" was supposed to lay
down, but also walk, which the doll can't do when wearing
a long dress. The special interest here is that "Louise" has
so many outfits (not all shown here) that she may assume
the appearance of a young person throughout her pre-adult
years, from the birth with her long white dress, to the toddler
learning to walk, then, to the pre-teen girl and finally to the
teenage one. Her original mohair wig is intact and has even
kept the two original tiny hairpins that Jules Nicholas Steiner
used for this particular style mohair wig. She has very pale
fine bisque with beautiful, subtle make up and light green
paperweight eyes. The design of the eyebrows and eyelashes
is more elaborate than the previous babies shown here, so is
the painting of the tiny mouth with the sweet smile delicately
showing two rows of tiny teeth. The doll measures 45 cm.
