n 2012 the Central Florida Doll Club held its
first doll event in many years and decided
for its location the historic Lakeside Inn hotel
in the quaint town of Mt Dora, Florida. Known
for its antique boutiques, brick-paved streets and
early Florida architecture, as well as sidewalk
cafes, the weekend of the annual fall Renninger's
Extravaganza seemed the ideal choice for a date.
Since many doll clubs were travelling from all
over Florida to attend the event, they could easily
make a weekend event out of it; attend a doll
event on Saturday, stay in a historic hotel and
visit the Renninger's Antique Festival on Sunday.
It's no surprise that the event was sold out
months in advance.
The event, titled "Under the Christmas Tree,"
also featured an exhibit of Christmas-themed
doll vignettes displayed in a historical context of
Christmas through the Ages beginning with the
1850s through the present day.
Two years later, spring boarding from the
success and theme of their first event, the club
hosted its second doll event in the same location
titled "Toy Shop Windows." The event program
mirrored the special exhibit that featured toy shop
window vignettes beginning in the 1850s through
the present. When the club learned that the UFDC
2017 convention would be held in Orlando,
Florida, they decided to elaborate on their shop
window exhibits and stage each period in a
theatrical set that reflected its period window both
in contents and architectural design.
